The Compleat Angler is a celebration of the art and spirit of fishing in prose and verse. The Buffalo River Co original 1927 edition is also beautifully illustrated with 16 wood block engravings that were inspired by the verse. 

Isaak Walton published the first edition in 1653 and revised it through five editions in his lifetime.  Over the subsequent 375 years, there have been hundreds of published editions.

 

The Compleat Angler is perhaps the quintessential pastoral work on fishing. Structured as a dialogue between a fisherman, huntsman, and fowler, the book is a celebration of the natural world and the thrills of fishing as a pastime. The Angler has many descriptions of specific fish and how to catch them, landscapes that are ideal for fishing, and methods of fishing, which has made it a work of interest to a wide variety of people.

 

An original 1927 edition of the book The Compleat Anger can be found in the Buffalo River Co library. 

We have archivally scanned the 16 wood block prints found in the book. Our digital archivist has lightly restored and enhanced the images in preparation for printing your Giclee print order.  We print the entire image as it was created many years ago. That means we also reproduce the artworks aged patina, subtle imperfections, and signs of aging.

We use Hahnemühle fine art paper, an ultra premium 310gsm German Etching – 100% α-cellulose paper with a distinct textured surface. Its premium matt inkjet coating meets the highest industry standards for density, color gamut, and image sharpness while preserving the feel of genuine art paper.

Our premium water-based inks produce colors independently verified to last 100+ years when displayed properly.

Return Policy

We accept returns of unframed prints within 30 days of purchase

Framed prints cannot be returned

Returned prints must be in new condition and in original packaging

Returns without authorization may not be accepted

If your order arrives damaged, email info@buffaloriver.co with photos for a
