MID CENTURY TRAVEL
Destination The Rockies via United Airlines Travel Poster. Circa 1950s.
Rare original offset print, this vintage travel poster hangs in the Buffalo River Library. This stunning iconic poster from the 1950s promotes United Airlines routes to the American West – Colorado and The Rockies (Rocky Mountains, Colorado).
The vibrant and visually appealing imagery of the poster is an invitation to a Mid-Century Golden Age destination in the American West – a Mad Men glamourized style showing two cowboys and a cowgirl treading through a crystal-clear river on horseback, with evergreen mountains behind them.
Air travel at that time was something special. It was luxurious. It was smooth. It was fast. People dressed up for the experience. Vibrant and visually appealing travel posters depicting exotic destinations were used extensively to promote travel.
During 1950s – 1960s, Stan Galli was commissioned to paint advertising posters for United Airlines. These now Mid-Century iconic posters featured delighted tourists in Hawaii sailing in outrigger canoes, couples enjoying horse carriage rides in New York City, cable car rides in San Francisco, jungle cruises in Disneyland, the glamorous Southern California beach and this posters’ call to the Rockies.
The Original Lithograph Poster which hangs in the Buffalo River library, has been archivally scanned and enhanced. We offer this Museum Quality Giclée Reproduction Print.
